Picture This Photo Contest Winners – November 2009

With 82 entries, our judge, Josh McCullough of PhytoPhoto, had a bear of a job to go through each photo at least once before narrowing it down to the semi-finalists and then the finalists.

Without further ado, here are Josh’s comments and picks:

“First, I just have to give a big thanks. As I linger over this strange family of images brought together by purpose and chance for me to digest along with my holiday meal, I am imbued once again with a desire to give thanks. Thanks for all the entries, especially first time entries, for everyone’s appreciation of the theme and for the invitation into all of your thoughts in how you see and interpret this idea. There are so many great images this time around and quite a crafty approach to the subject by many of you. Lovely. Thanks, thanks, thanks. Continue Reading →

Reminder For November’s Picture This Photo Contest

PhytoPhoto-yellow flowers-resizedThis month’s Picture This has proven to be a robust one! Our judge, Josh McCollough of PhytoPhoto has chosen a subject that has given all of our participants a lot to chew on. This is how he described his choice of subject, THE END OF THE LINE:

“I am excited and honored to jury Picture This for November. Judging by the absolutely super quality of previous winners, I am very much looking forward to each of your entries! In keeping with the seasonal spirit of last month’s theme ‘Abundant Harvest’, and encouraging as much individual interpretation as possible, I’ve selected the November theme, END OF THE LINE. This may be presented metaphorically, such as in the final push of a last dahlia out of a battered heap of leaves and stems or a last clinging leaf: as well as images showing the end of this year’s garden. GGW Picture This Photo Contest – September 2009

Schizachyrium scoparium on ice 3 Dec 14 07

With September’s Picture This Photo Contest, we continue selecting the best of the best of our colleagues to judge what has quickly become a great place for budding and experienced photographers alike to share photos and in some cases, to be singled out as winners for the month.  And so it should come as no suprise to any of you that Nan Ondra, our judge this month,  has chosen ornamental grasses as the subject. Nan has written a widely read and highly respected book, Grasses: Versatile Partners for Uncommon Garden Design. She is the ideal person to come up with the criteria upon which the photos will be judged, offer observations and select the winning photos. Nan is also the author of the recently published book, The Perennial Care Manual: A Plant by Plant Guide: What To Do And When To Do It, (as well as over a dozen other books), the co-creator and manager of GGW, a horticulturist, renowned gardener and can also be found writing on her own blog, Hayefield.

And the prize for this month? Our dear friend, David Salman at High Country Gardens, has selected  a collection of ornamental grasses that will have your fall garden  swaying in the breeze with texture, color and movement (photo and description to be posted soon).
