Fran Sorin

sorin-resizedFran has gardened in the suburbs of Philadelphia on a one half acre hilly terrain for over two decades. This garden was her laboratory and showcase where horticultural tours and workshops took place: several articles were written about it as well. She recently sold her home and is in the process of looking for land to create a new garden. Meanwhile, she is busy designing a rooftop garden in the center of Tel Aviv where she has an apartment and lives for part of the year.

Fran is the author of Digging Deep: Unearthing Your Creative Roots Through Gardening published by Hachette Books.

She is the CBS Radio News Garden Contributor. You can listen to her features on CBS Radio stations throughout the country or can click on Fran’s website each Friday to hear her new features for the week . You can hear Fran in NYC on WCBS880am. Fran hosted a CBS radio call in gardening talk show in the Philadelphia market for several years.

Fran is the GardenSmart contributor for USA Weekend Magazine . There are dozens of articles that she has written over the years that can be accessed on that site.

Because of Fran’s strong belief in the importance of gardening, she has made several national TV appearances in order to promote the concept that digging in the dirt is not only FUN but that gardening is a conduit for living a  healthier, more creative and  joyful life. She has appeared as a Regular Contributor on The Weekend Today Show, Regis and Kelly, plus several other national and local programs.

Fran was a co-creator of the Garden Channel on iVillage. She also served as their gardening expert for many years.

She  is on the Advisory Board of The Healthy House Institute  and The Housekeeping Channel.

Fran is a member of Garden Writers Association, Perennial Plant AssociationSociety of Environmental Journalists, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, New York Botanical GardenGreen Roofs , High Line and Association for Humanistic Psychology.

Fran’s website is filled with a plethora of gardening information and inspiration, plus some background on Fran. She is the co-founder of GardeningGoneWild, the highly regarded and successful blog with a roster of contributors: all professional gardeners from throughout the country.

Fran graduated from The University of Chicago with a BA in Psychology with Honors. She worked in the fields of broadcasting and media consulting prior to entering the world of gardening.

She is a recent graduate of One Spirit Interfaith Seminary and has been ordained as an interfaith minister.
