Thanks for reading it through. Silvers make a great combination for any strong color. Finding a camera angle that isolates the color with the silver is almost cheating; a sure fire composition.

Thanks for the mini-tutorial, it was fascinating! You have much more to photograph at this time of year than us in Zone 5, but the lesson applies equally here once the snow melts. The combo of the red Cyclamen & the silver Hellebore is stunning.

Lord, is there anything better than getting lost among plants with a camera? Well, probably is, and we all know what those things are, but they aren't many. But, not too long of a blog entry--I found it fascinating to take the trip along with you. Those oaks are magnificent, and good eco bodies to have around. And people keep posting photos of gingko trees (suggestively), so, I guess I better buy the empty lot next door so I've more room for trees--I think I have to have this one now.

You got me with the first two paragraphs... Walt Whitman and fertilizer.
I thought you were going to extoll the virtues of our local high end compost called "Walt Whitman Compost" from American Soil Products but as I read on I stumbled across both some great writing and stunning photography.

Write on neighbor !
Michelle in Novato.

Thanks for a very informative post. I envy your zone 9 lushness and your way with a camera. Your instruction of composition will inspire many hours in my garden with camera in hand or on tripod.
